One and two day workshops may be held at a district facility or region center and are provided throughout the year.  Workshops are appropriate for language teachers at all levels. Sessions are conducted in English with examples in other languages. The ideas introduced are practical, meaningful and require teacher participation.

(6 hour presentation, unlimited participants)

#1  A Superior Learning Environment

The focus of this session is to introduce accelerated learning and behavioral strategies combined with behavioral strategies that when implemented create an efficient learning environment.  The overview for the day includes student responsibility, teacher organization, preparation and planning, as well as how to create a classroom environment that enhances the learning process.  During the afternoon session, the participants will create visuals that will be useful in teaching language and creating contexts for new material.

#2  7 Phases of a Lesson Plan

The focus of this session is to present a lesson PLAN which includes 7 phases that guarantee success for each learner at their individual level.  One key to getting students to communicate in another language is to ask appropriate questions during each phase of the learning.  Success occurs when students have adequate information to answer questions and enjoy discussions.  Teachers will receive a notebook which will include information on the phases, student participation capabilities, question asking, activities and tools that will show them how to lead their students to get involved and engaged in language learning rather than simply memorizing and repeating.  The students will learn the HOW along with the WHAT.

#3 (A & B) Creating Language Using Accelerated Learning Activities

The focus of these sessions is to introduce inventive activities that encourage students to create meaningful content.  These activities guide students to use the language they already know, create a need in them to know more, and help them to find the language they want to know. Teachers will participate in each activity in order to demonstrate how students take the framework and fill it in with meaningful content.

#4  Question Asking:  Involving and Engaging the Learner

The focus of this session is Question Asking.  In order for students to communicate in the target language, they need to be asked appropriate questions at each phase of the lesson.  There are questions used at the beginning stages of a lesson - the involved stage.  There are appropriate questions used at the latter stages of a lesson - the engaged stage.  Participants will be guided through the stages of a lesson while identifying the types of questions to be asked at each phase. This allows students to show what they know how to say and can provide proof that they are "getting it."

#5  Accelerated Learning:  Motivation, Meaning, Multiple Intelligences

The focus of this session is on the student. We will address the learner: why are they taking this course, what do they want to gain from the experience, how are they going to apply what they learn, and what is in it for them?  We will address the content: is it practical, meaningful, useful and interesting?  We will discuss the means to learning:  planning lessons so that any student can connect to the content, forming activities that insist a learner be engaged and involved, while requiring thinking and reasoning.  We will discuss how to invite students to experience the language.

#6  Teacher Re-charge

The focus of this session will be to address organization, classroom environment, student ownership, along with teacher responsibility.  Practical helps, strategies, tools and encouragement will be offered to new teachers.  Teachers will be encouraged to make decisions and create materials that will benefit them in their classrooms.  By addressing many issues at the beginning of the year, the frustrating, irritating and time-consuming “moments” are reduced. It is our hope that new teachers as well as veteran teachers who would like a fresh perspective will see their job as not only doable but fulfilling.

The Organization portion includes roll-taking, make-up work, homework assignments, lesson planning folders and materials, pacing, and grading.

The Classroom Environment segment addresses filing, neatness, decor, music, visual aids, and meaningful content.

The Student Ownership block considers student behavior, student responsibility as it pertains to participation and effort, and student motivation.

The Teacher Responsibility dimension focuses on teacher behavior, teacher responsibility as it pertains to preparation, guidance and expectation, teacher balance, and teacher follow-thru.
